Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 12: Amid the ongoing tumultuous times in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress party seems to have been caught in a mess within with its national president Sonia Gandhi jumping in to take control in her own hands.
As per the reports coming to fore, Sonia Gandhi on April 11 telephoned party’s JK President G.A. Mir, seeking from him the details about the party’s internal situation and measures being taken to strengthen it on the ground.
The party, however, tried to downplay the meet, stating that the discussions only took place about the COVID-19 and party’s response to it. The statement said Mir apprised Gandhi about the overall situation in J&K, the spurt in COVID-19 cases and difficulties confronting students and others, who are currently stuck in other states due to the lockdown.
Mir also apprised Gandhi about hardships being faced by outside labourers in the Valley and Jammu and told her that appropriate measures are needed for their relief and return to their respective states.
Mir expressed concern over the pathetic condition of poor people in J&K and told Gandhi that BPL, AAY and PPH classes were in great difficulty since ration and other essentials have not reached them as was claimed by the administration.
Insiders however, reveal that the situation within the JK unit of the party is turning precarious and what Sonia Gandhi did was the job of a fire fighting. “There are crisis looming large in the party and particularly about the leadership within Jammu and Kashmir. There is a difference of opinion between the leaders and disgruntlement is also becoming a major cause of concern,” revealed the sources.
Earlier, the senior leaders of the Congress had intimated the high command over the alleged narcissist approach by the Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad who wanted the limelight for himself and didn't even inform his colleagues in Srinagar about his visit to the NC President’s residence after latter’s release from custody. “The party was planning to do it as a team. We wanted to meet NC President and a team was all set to comprise of few veteran Congress leaders. Sensing trouble for himself, Azad decided to do it solo. Such an action hasn’t gone well within the ranks,” said a Congress functionary.
There were also reports making rounds that the Congress may seek an explanation from Azad over why he didn't inform his senior colleagues within the party about his meeting with Dr Farooq and it would have sent a positive signal across if a team and not him alone would have met the freed NC leader.
Azad while talking to the media persons along with Dr Farooq pitched for the restoration of Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and preferred not to raise any issue pertaining to the abrogation of 370 and whether the order issued on August 5, last year should be rolled back.
