: Houseboat owner booked for hiding British tourist during lockdown
4/13/2020 5:30:51 PM
Srinagar , April 13

Jammu and Kashmir Police has booked a houseboat owner in Srinagar's Dal lake for hiding a British tourist.

The British national was staying at the houseboat since March 15. The matter came to light when an official accidentally discovered the tourist on staying on the boat.

"Since the tourist had been staying there even after the lockdown was announced and the owner had not informed the authorities about it, an FIR has been registered in this matter under section 188 of IPC," Sheema Qasba, SP of Jammu and Kashmir police, said.

The tourist had reached Kashmir by road and had managed to skip all the check points mandatory for foreigners visiting the valley. He had been staying in the lake since March 15 until last week when he was found by the officials.

Soon after he was found, the Jammu and Kashmir administration took him to a hospital and was later shifted to a quarantine centre as per the guidelines.

"Though he seems to be stable and has no symptoms as per the guidelines, he has been shifted to a quarantine centre and is being watched. We are requesting everyone that such things shouldn't happen and hiding whereabouts of any such person can be a big problem," an official said.

On March 17, the Jammu and Kashmir government had ordered a ban on entry of all foreigners as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The tourists, who were were already in the valley, were asked to leave immediately. The people associated with the tourism trade were advised to report about presence of any foreigners.
