Manohar urges LG to bring J&K residents stranded outside
4/18/2020 9:46:46 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, April 18: Former Minister and President DCC Kathua Dr Manohar lal Sharma today again urged the LG administration and central government to bring back hundreds of local residents of J&K stranded in other parts of the country because of the ongoing nationwide lockdown.
Dr Sharma said that he is regularly receiving calls from those stuck in various parts of the country especially in HP, Maharashtra, Gujrat, Haryana, Uttar pardesh, Uttrakhand, Punjab and other states.
Manohar while referring to the pathetic plight of several thousands of laborers and other poor daily wagers held up in other states in most distressing conditions he said that those stranded have no money, food and other day to day requirements and would die of starvation rather than the viral outbreak if they are made to stay away from home till lockdown ends and majority of them are saying that ‘they will die of hunger rather than corona’.
He said government should make arrangements to bring them back to their native places like UP and Gujarat has been doing to bring back its stranded persons from other states. He also criticized administration for failing to set up helpline for listening to the grievances peoples stranded outside and also for not appointing any nodal officer for the same till now.
Dr Sharma further appealed the Lt. Governor and the central govt. to take immediate steps for evacuating the J&K residents so that the distressed class which include students, workers in small trading, laborers are saved not only from the ferocious pandemic but from starvation as well.
He called for taking up the matter with the concerned states on top priority as their families, who are helplessly waiting at different locations for some mode of transportation to reach at their homes after following proper guideline and safety precautions by WHO to further stop spread of disease.
