4/18/2020 11:46:49 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 18: With Kashmir bearing the brunt of coronavirus cases in the Union Territory, the government has intensified testing of the suspected cases.
Officials in the Health Department said the testing has grown over two hundred percent within a week.
The officials the testing efforts were tripled after Advisor Baseer Ahmed Khan, who has been given special charge of tackling Covid in Kashmir chaired a review meeting.
Sources said Khan was shocked to know that one of the Covid designated hospitals at SKIMS Bemina was not conducting even a single test.
Officials said till April 8, SKIMS Soura had been testing 150 cases per day to be followed by Chest Disease Hospital at Dalgate with 120 cases. The SKIMS Bemina Hospital however was not conducting even a single test.
Sources said Khan told the concerned that there was no scope for any negligence and that non-performing officials would not only be placed under suspension but that they would be shown the door.
Seeking desired results within a week, Khan asked officials to “perform or perish.”
Health Officials said soon after the meeting with the Advisor, teams officials from the Health Department rushed to concerned hospitals to gear up the mechanism of testing.
“Within one week we managed not only to double the testing but we infact tripled it,” said a senior official.
He said as of now over 700 tests are done on daily basis. Giving details he said: “344 tests are done at SKIMS, 245 at CD Hospital, and around 100 at SKIMS Bemina which was previously doing no tests.”
