Ajeet Sahu visits Ranbeer, New Pratap canals; reviews works for release of water on April 21

JAMMU, Apr 18: Commissioner Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, today conducted inspection of Ranbeer Canal and New Pratap Canal in view of release of water into these channels on April 21, 2020.
Commissioner Secretary, during the inspection, took stock of desilting and cleanliness works completed at various places including Bhagwati Nagar, Canal main head, Shakti Nagar, Muthi, Domana, Bhalwal, Kana Chak, Akhnoor and Khour.
The executing agencies informed that almost all the necessary works regarding release of water into these canals have been completed for ensuring timely irrigation facilities at every nook and corner of Jammu.
Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department apprised the Commissioner Secretary that more than five cubic meter of silt/mulba has been cleared from major canals of Jammu province so far.
Pertinently, Jammu region has a vast network of canals (around 3000 km) under major, medium and minor category alone excluding the Zamidari khuls and Fields Channels. Besides, Ranbeer Canal, New pratap Canal, Ranjan Canal and Tawi Lift Canal are the main channels of Jammu region which provide irrigation facility to lakhs of farmers in 842 villages.
During his visit to various spots, Commissioner Secretary interacted with the local representatives and Counsellor of the concerned areas.
Sahu gave instructions to the concerned officials to take necessary steps to stop encroachment of banks along the canals.
Executive Engineers and concerned officers accompanied the Commissioner Secretary during the inspection.
