4/19/2020 9:39:09 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 19: The J&K Rural Livelihoods Mission Self-Help Group members stitched 20,000 masks to meet the huge demand for masks to control the spread of Covid-19 in district Kishtiwar of J&K UT.
The women beneficiaries of J&K Rural livelihoods Mission also known as (UMEED) are doing their bit in present crises by helping manufacturing much needed masks. Working in self help groups these women have stopped their regular works to stitch face masks after getting approval from district administration Kishtwar to do so. Around 80 SHG members in Kishtwar have started making masks as per Mask manual issued by GOI.
The supply has almost started before few days. The SHG members are working overtime to supply adequate number of masks,” said Mohmad Saleh Bhat District Nodal Officer JKRLM Kishtiwar Jammu. He said 80 women SHG members of different SHGs divided into different groups are making the masks.
To meet the increase in demand for masks, many women self-help groups (SHGs) are working overtime to manufacture the products in bulk in all the blocks of Kishtwar district.
The SHG members were suggested as the institution that should take the lead and play significant role in promoting Social Inclusion & Social Development (SISD) as is happening in JKRLM, where several initiatives are being undertaken to reach the most excluded and also addressing issues related to food security, health, and sanitation in the community. For example, they have an activity called “Ek Muthi Chaul” as part of this activity a handful of rice is collected by the SHG members during Covid-19 Combat Battle, which is donated to vulnerable families in the district. “We never presumed that a small effort by a few members of SHGs would fetch them such big orders and revenue,” Nodal officer said.
