SAMBA, Apr 19: Despite tall claims of Government of providing ration and other relief material to the needy as well as the migrant labourers but it has been observed that necessary help is not reaching to this marginalized section of the society during lockdown in the wake of COVID-19, who have now virtually come on the verge of starvation in Samba district.
Sources told Early Times that although a survey about the numbers and whereabouts of the migrant labourers across the Samba district was conducted by the concerned District Administration around 3-4 weeks ago.
"Instead of taking information about them nothing has been done to provide relief to them till date due to which these labourers, who have mainly come from UP, Bihar, Odisha etc. have been dying of hunger but the administration has literally turned deaf ears toward their plights," they alleged.
They further maintained that there is no money left with them to purchase ration for their sustenance resulting their life has become hell. "Nobody from administration has come to inquire about their wellbeing yet which has put their life in grave danger. Moreover the extension in lockdown which has now fixed May 3 has aggravated their condition. No relief of any kind seems near future," they alleged.
The labourers appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Jammu and Kashmir to take note of their plights and demanded immediate relief to them.
