Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Apr 19: At a time when the Jammu & Kashmir administration is trying its best to cut down the wasteful expenditure, the office of Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Sunderbani in this district is going in the opposite direction.
Early Times has learnt from sources that lakhs of rupees have gone down the drain since the office of CDPO Sunderbani is paying a huge amount as monthly rent since it does not have its own building. The sources said that government could have constructed building of the office of CDPO Sunderbani from a portion of the amount paid as rent so far.
"As on date the department is paying Rs 27, 000 as monthly rent for the building hired by it as office of CDPO Sunderbani. This amount has been paid for the past three years now and the department has been paying hefty sum when it comes to paying the rent on annual basis. The same has been done at the behest of concerned CDPO," said sources.
Sources said that the amount is 'exorbitant' since the office is located at Lohara-Kote, one and half kilometers away from the main Sunderbani market. They said the amount paid at present is four times more than the rent paid previously. The sources said that the department used to pay Rs 7,000 per month as rent when the office was located at Phalwari Road in the main market of Sunderbani.
Ram Chandra Sharma, Sarpanch Siote said that he has been using the social media in order to raise this issue adding that his voice has been stifled. Sharma urged Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu to order a probe in the matter so that the truth comes out and the picture becomes crystal clear before the people.
"It would not have cost the government much in constructing the building for office of CDPO Sunderbani. For the reasons best known to them the move has been scuttled and the department goes on to pay hefty amount as monthly rent. Just three rooms one each for CDPO, Office Assistant and Supervisor are needed for the office of CDPO at any place and same holds true with the office of CDPO Sunderbani," said sources.
When contacted CDPO Sunderbani, Shalini Kumar Gupta denied that the office has been shifted to Lohara-Kote. She asked this reporter to contact higher officer for further details adding that media most of the times blows an issue out of proportion.
