BANDIPORA, Apr 19: The newly constructed Maternity Hospital (MH) at Sonerwani in Bandipora district has started to function as COVID Hospital (Level-II) and five positive cases that were reported on Saturday have been shifted to the hospital thus reducing the burden on Srinagar Hospitals.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza in a statement said that the hospital has a capacity of 70 beds and the COVID asymptotic Positive case patients shall be kept in the hospital for treatment. He said the hospital has started functioning and the swabs are being taken at the centre for testing purpose.
Mirza said the first test of the COVID suspects that is Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) shall also be done in the hospital within few days as the reagents have been received and shall be made available at the hospital soon.
He said the technical staff has been trained and are fully trained to take the samples and perform testing for COVID-19.
With making the hospital functional, the load on Srinagar hospitals including SKIMS and CD Hospital shall be eased out as till date all the suspects would be referred to Srinagar for testing, said Shahbaz Mirza.
DC Bandipora also said that work is in progress to make the under construction District Hospital Complex at Nussu Bandipora as a COVID Hospital.
He said the work has been started at war footing basis and initially 100 beds shall be make available.
The district administration is geared up to contain COVID – 19 in the district. He said all the basic amenities are being ensured at the quarantine centers, adding that essentials are being supplied to the residents at their doorsteps including in the red zones, said DC.
He appealed people to stay home and observe social distancing, as per the advisories and cautioned against rumor mongering.
However, sources said that, an extensive fumigation drive across the district is in progress, with an aim to maintain cleanliness and contain the spread of COVID-19.
Despite the incessant rains from past few days, the Municipal Committees of Bandipora district has deputed their teams in their respective areas for the purpose to disinfect various public places including hospitals, designated quarantine centres of the district, markets, government offices, religious places, Police stations and other public places.
The people were informed that by enhancing hygiene, keeping surrounding disinfected, sanitized and maintaining social distancing, one can minimize the transmission of corona virus infection, sources added.
