Early tIMES rEPORT

Jammu, Apr 30: At a time when entire country is fighting COVID-19 collectively some KAS officers in J&K are busy “maligning” journalists on social media.
Sources told Early Times that around five KAS officers have been defaming journalists from Jammu region on Facebook. They are accusing them of biased reporting on COVID-19 but many people believe that these officers are doing so out of vendetta. It has been learnt that one of the KAS officers, who is spitting venom against journalists, was exposed for his misdeeds by the media after he had glorified terrorist Burhan Wani, after he was eliminated by the security forces.
These KAS officers are spitting venom against journalists despite the fact that no public servant is allowed to the use social media for criticising government or any other person just to settle scores.
A source said that the screenshots of the facebook pages of the officer and the comments have already been submitted to the higher authorities but till date no action has been taken against them. “The officer along with his colleagues has launched a propaganda which is in bad taste,” the source added.
“These officials mislead general public through their facebook comments and posts, which have strong potential to communalize the situation,” the source added.
Pertinently, one of these KAS officers was transferred from the office of Financial Commissioner, Revenue to GAD recently void transfer order No. 491-JK(GAD) of 2020 dated 23-04-2020. Sources said that there was some strong reason behind this transfer, which was not revealed by the government.
Voices to take action against these KAS officers are becoming shriller. “Government should take note of the acts of such erring officials, who have forgotten their duty and are targeting the scribes just to appease a section of community,” said an observer.
