Shame: ‘Tainted’ Cong leader supports Delhi riots accused
4/30/2020 11:41:44 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 30: Forced to resign from the prestigious post of the national president National Students Union of India (NSUI) after women party workers had charged him with sexually harassment, the tainted Congress leader, Feroz Khan today came in support of those who have been arrested in connection with inciting communal riots in Northern Delhi.
“It is unfortunate that Delhi Police has arrested students of Jamia Millia Islamia under infamous and draconian UAPA law”, Feroz Khan stated while demanding release of these riot accused.
Jamia Millia Islamia students including president of JMIAA Shifa-Ur-Rehman, Meeran Haider and Safoora Zagar were also arrested under the Act for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to incite the communal riots. While Zargar is the media coordinator of Jamia Coordination Committee, Haider is a member of the committee.
In the FIR, police have claimed that the communal violence was a “premeditated conspiracy” which was allegedly hatched by former JNU student leader Umar Khalid and two others.
Communal violence had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24 after clashes between citizenship law supporters and protesters spiralled, leaving at least 53 people dead and around 200 injured.
“These students and other activists are being implicated in the cases related to the communal violence that took place in Delhi in February end, not to forget in which most of the riot-victims are from the minority community”, he pointed out in his statement, adding, “This is nothing but an infraction of the fundamental and civil rights of the people by the Delhi Police and their abuse of power, by taking the cover of nation-wide lockdown. The actions of Delhi Police are not just inhumane and undemocratic but also in every way denying the rights of the students of Jamia and other activists”.
Khan a native of J&K was forced to resign as NSUI president on October 16, 2018 when an NSUI office bearer from Chhattisgarh had levelled charges of sexual harassment against Khan. The woman had alleged that Khan “used to sexually harass young women” for political appointments in the NSUI.
