KUPWARA, May 2: An army soldier got martyred while another injured in Kupwara district on Saturday after a grenade went off accidentally and exploded inside the camp, where as two solider succumbed after Pakistan’s Ceasefire Violation (CFV) in Uri sector, said Defence Spokesperson in a statement, while as the operation against the militant in Handwara is still underway.
An official said that during a militant drill in Jal Post of Karnah sector, a grenade being carried by a soldier exploded accidently resulted the injuries to two army personnel.
He said soon after the mishap, both army men were evacuated and rushed to military hospital for treatment where Nk. Jigender Singh (3200182-L) succumbed to his injuries while another injured army man Nk. Jitendra Singh (3200875-H) is hospitalized and is being treated.
Meanwhile, two army soldiers have succumbed to their injuries after there was cross-border shelling in Uri sector of Baramulla district on Friday, while as four civilians were also injured in the shelling.
Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said that, three soldiers have been injured in the CFV in Rampur area of Uri sector, after Pakistan violated ceasefire violation on May 1/2020.
At about 15:30 hours, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) along the LoC in Rampur Sector, District Baramulla (J&K), three soldiers have been injured in the CFV, said Rajesh Kalia.
He further said that, unprovoked CFV by Pakistan in Rampur sector on 01 May 2020, unfortunately two soldiers succumbed to their injuries, army salutes their supreme sacrifice.
Earlier, four persons namely Shanaza Bano (12) d/o Bashir Ahmad, Tahira Bano (20) w/o Liyaqat Ali, Touseef Ahmad Khatana (4) s/o Bashir Ahmad Khatana and Hassan B w/o Husan Din Koli suffered injuries at Churanda village.
Sources said the incident occurred after several shells landed in civilian areas which also created panic at Chrunda, Batgran, Hathlanga, Mothal, Sahoora, Silikote, Balkote, Nambla, Garkote areas.
Meanwhile, an encounter between militants and security forces are underway in Handwara area of this north Kashmir district.
A top army official said that, the operation was launched in Chanjmulla Handwara, after there were inputs about the presence of militants in the forests.
Earlier there were credible inputs about the presence of militants in Rajwar sector and later we came to know that militants managed to escape from the spot and fled towards another forest area.
But again the operation was resumed on Saturday that is still underway, till the last reports came in, the official said.
