Early Times Report

Udhampur, May 2: Alleging lack of transparency in the development works, six Municipal Councilors tendered their resignations from the Finance and General Standing Committees of Udhampur Municipality on Saturday. They claimed that they resigned from these committees in protest against them being kept in dark about how the money was being spent. Preeti Khajuria—councillor of Ward No.1 affiliated with Congress party—while talking to Early Times said, “We were never informed about the expenditure on development works in the town even when we wanted to know it.” “At present there is Coronavirus pandemic and people at the helm of affairs in the Municipality seem least bothered about showing transparency in the works being executed,” she alleged. Six members resigning from these vital committees has reduced the number of members of these two vital committees to its lowest. Vikram Singh Salathia, councilor of ward no. 6 of Udhampur town, who was the member of financial committee had resigned earlier. The councilors who resigned from these committees today are Preeti Kahjuria of Ward number 1, Vikas Sharma of Ward number 7, Jagdish Kumar of Ward number 20, Sunil Paroch of Ward number 2, Darshan Kumar of Ward number 21 and Arti Verma of Ward number 11. They submitted their resignations to the CEO Udhampur Municipality, Santosh Kotwal. They belong to different political parties, including BJP, Congress and JKNPP.
