8 injured in explosion in Handwara, 5 kms from encounter site

KUPWARA, May 3: At least 8 civilians were injured after an explosive device went off in the air at Ahgam Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
Sources said that an explosive device exploded at Ahgam area in Zachaldara block, which is 5 kms away from the today's encounter spot.
The incident happened when some boys were playing with the device fond by the two guys in the nearby lawns, sources told ET.
They said around 8 people have sustained injuries and were being evacuated to health care for treatment. The injured were identified as Riyaz Ahmad s/o Mohammad Subhan Bhat, Mohammad Ashraf Qureshi s/o Jalaluddin Qureshi, Syed Khalid Bukhari s/o Syed Hafizullah Bukhari, Maqsood Ahmad s/o Syed Mohammad Shah, Junaid Khan, and his brother Tanveer Ahmad, and Adil Ahmad Ganie s/o Ghulam Rasool Ganie all residents of Syed and Ganie Mohalla of Ahgam Handwara, said sources.
Sources said that, out of eight; two are critically injured that were shifted to Srinagar for emergency treatment, while as the other six were shifted to the nearby hospital.
Police has registered a case and investigations were started into the matter.
Pertinently five brave hearts including Commanding Officer, Major, two soldiers and Sub inspector of JK police’s SOG wing were martyred on Sunday in an encounter with militants in Chanjimulla Handwara.
Among the two killed militants one was local, identified as Asif Reshi s/o Moahammd Sultan Reshi of Gund Chabootra Handwara and Hyder alias Iqbal resident of Pakistan administered Kashmir.
