Genuine appraisal of people’s problems needed: Munish to admin
Jeevan Nagar residents seek improved civic amenities

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 3: Seeking a genuine appraisal of the problems being faced by the general public, the Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, has urged the administration to initiate measures that could help in minimizing the miseries of Jammu people particularly those who live under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency.
Pointing towards the various problems being faced by the people of Gandhi Nagar Assembly constituency, Munish said that many areas of this segment are deprived of basic civic amenities and despite raising the lacunae by the people nothing substantial has been done by those at the helm of affairs.
Munish, who is going to contest the next Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency as an independent candidate, said that people of Jeevan Nagar are grappling with so many difficulties in their day to day life. He said the lanes and drains of the area are in deplorable condition and same need to be improved so that people could heave a sigh of relief.
“Lanes and drains act like life line for any locality as both these constitute a basic frame work of standard of living in an area. However, these vital components are missing badly in Jeevan Nagar area and the problem on account of this need to be fixed, that too at the earliest so that the people’s agonies could take a back seat for a while,” said Munish.
The residents of Jeevan Nagar said that they are at the receiving end for the last so many years since the civic amenities like lanes and drains are in a dilapidated condition. The residents said that drains of the area are always overflowing as they are choked with garbage causing problems of all sorts including stench. “Since the garbage gets collected in the drains there is blockage of the drains.
As a result of this the drains overflows and the water is spilled on the lanes in the area. Clogged water in the lanes is causing huge inconvenience for the residents,” said the residents.
The pitiable condition of lanes and interior roads in several parts of Jeevan Nagar has robbed the sheen of the locality.
“Pedestrians and commuters are forced to travel on the roads filled with pot-holes and resembling dust bowls due to the sheer negligence of the authorities.
The inordinate delay in re-carpeting the worn out roads has worsened the plight of residents,” said the locals. Apart from the deplorable condition of roads and choked drains, the residents also complained about the problem of unhygienic surroundings in their area.
“There are many spots in our locality which are being used as garbage dumping sites thereby creating nuisance in the area,” said residents.
