EARLY TIMES REPORT

ANANTNAG, May 3: A video, showing family carrying dead body of pregnant lady on a hospital stretcher in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town has fueled anger against the district administration and health department officials.
The deceased pregnant lady, according to reports, had died on way to Maternity and Child Care Hospital on Sunday morning and allegedly the hospital authorities denied ambulance to the family for ferrying the dead body to home for burial.
Family members and residents also held protests at Sub-District Hospital Seerhamdan and demanded impartial enquiry into the matter. They shouted slogans against the doctors and other paramedical staff.w
As per reports, Shakeela (30) wife of Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Salia Nowpora Panzmulla area after feeling acute labor pain was moved to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Seer Hamdan on Saturday at around 2 pm.
“Doctor and other staff didn’t pay much attention. She was given only three glucose bottles during the night and in the morning after her condition deteriorated they told us to take her to Sheerbagh,” Zahoor Ahmad, deceased pregnant lady’s husband told Early Times over phone.
At Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag the family and those accompanying the pregnant lady were told that she had died before reaching to hospital.
Family members alleged that the hospital authorities were deliberately trying to declare her positive for coronavirus. “Whole Pahalgam constituency coronavirus free and it makes no sense to take sample of the deceased lady. To cover the negligence the authorities were trying to declare the deceased as positive for the virus which he didn’t allow,” they claimed and alleged that they weren’t even provided an ambulance for carrying the dead body.
However, video showing the family members carrying dead body of deceased pregnant lady on hospital stretcher on Iqbalabad road in Anantnag, some two kilometers away from Maternity hospital has gone viral and angered the Anantnag residents. They took to social media sites and expressed anguish against the district administration and urged Jammu and Kashmir Government to shift ‘incompetent officers’.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Bashir Ahmad Dar refuted the allegations of the family. “Preliminary reports suggest the dead body was taken away by relatives fearing they will have to wait for burial if sample is taken for covid test. Most unfortunate to say the least,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Mattan ordered suspension of lady Medical Officer and Staff Nurse and ordered investigation into the matter.
“The lady Medical Officer namely Dr Rizwana and the staff nurse namely Zareefa Akhtar has been placed under suspension regarding death of a case namely Shakeela Akhtar wife of Zahoor Ahmad Bhat resident of Salia, admitted at SDH Seer under MRD No. 298 at Govt. MCCH Hospital GMC Anantnag referred from SDH Seer Hospital with the enquiry pending regarding the case”, order reads.
