Now crying foul, PDP once dared GOI over banning Jamat-e-Islami
Party openly used to support militant sympathisers, ridicule GoI policies

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 6: At a time when the PDP is out to condemn the slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) against it President Mehbooba Mufti, there are venomous statements of the past issued by the PDP Chief that have began making rounds on the internet.
One such statement dates back to March 27, 2019 when the PDP President assured people that they would revoke the ban imposed by the government of India on Jamat-e-Islami and JKLF. Such a statement was made by Mehbooba at a time when GOI while banning JKLF and Jamat affirmed that these two organisations pose threat to country’s integrity and sovereignty. However, it was the PDP alone which in order to impress its electorate promised revocation of the GOI imposed ban.
Now, when the PSA of PDP President has been extended for three more months, there is a hue and cry being heard within the PDP circles over such an action. The party on Wednesday went on to term this measure as undemocratic and unnatural, asserting such measures have not yielded any positive results in the past and are bound to fail in future as well.
What the party is forgetting now is how it tried to score brownie points by going against the nation. On March 27, Mehbooba addressed a rally in which she said that PDP had a clear stand that ideas could not be chained, banned or killed. “In democracy, ideas are allowed to flourish and not choked.
By taking such undemocratic, unconstitutional and unnatural measures, the government in actual is trying to show its electorate how tough it is against the Muslims and against Jammu and Kashmir. PDP government in spite of being in coalition with the BJP didn’t allow the later to fulfil its nefarious agenda in Kashmir and the government employed country’s best lawyers for the protection of Article 35-A in the Supreme Court. We strongly believe that the constitution of the country has enough space to accommodate aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir but unfortunately the atmosphere is fouled by the attempts being made to fiddle with its special status and louse of mistrust has risen out of that,,” Mehbooba said in her address while assuring that if PDP returned to power, it would make strenuous efforts to undo the BJP’s wrongs and revoke the ban imposed on Jamaat-e-Islami and JKLF.
“It is hard to believe that the party that used to hail militants and support their supporters is now crying foul over the PSA detention. If Kashmir at this time is chaotic much of its credit goes to the PDP that tried to instigate people on each and every issue,” says a former PDP leader based in central Kashmir.
