Rs 2,340 crores paid to political workers of Kashmir in 30 years: Reconciliation Return & Rehabilitation Migrants

SRINAGAR, May 18: Chairman Reconciliation Return & Rehabilitation Migrants, Satish Mahaldar has claimed that the government of Jammu and Kashmir is annually dispersing an amount of approximately Rs 78 crores to political workers in Kashmir.
He said that document with them shows that the government in J&K has been paying the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress workers for the past 30 years. He said the document has 26 pages and has 5,000 names of political workers mentioned.
“These leaders and workers have been getting the money from the J&K coffers every month and every year since 1990. And the amount totals a whopping Rs 2,340 crore in the last 30 years,” said Mahaldar. He said the document shows the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Office, Jammu has been paying the NC/PDP/Congress workers.
Each of these leaders/workers is getting approximately Rs. 13,000 per month. This clearly means that the political workers/leaders of the NC/PDP/Congress are getting money while living in their homes in Kashmir and claiming to be persecuted like the forcibly displaced Kashmiri Pandits, he said.
“And this has been going on for the past 30 years. While the earlier regimes can be slammed for exploiting the plight of Kashmiri Pandits to benefit their own workers, but what about the BJP government which has been there for the past six years. How could they let this continue under their nose,” said Mahaldar.
Mahaldar said that in budgets and papers, the government shows that it is doing so much and spending this much for the relief and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits, but the reality is different. The community has been again cheated and this has been going on for the past 30 years and continues to be in the last six years as well. On the name of migrants, many are looting the government in Kashmir, he said.
“On one hand the BJP says NC/ PDP / Congress are responsible for the current situation in J&K and on the other hand they are officially giving money to the opposition political parties, whom often they call have anti-national agenda. Most of the time, the PDP and the NC have been demonizing the police and the Army. They have been making statements favouring the separatist agenda, but still then the hard earned tax payers’ money being spent for the comfort of these people,” said Mahaldar.
Mahaldar said that in a security sensitive place like Jammu & Kashmir, questions about the governmental expenditure, including the doles to people or groups on the name of security and sensitivity are rarely asked. On the name of security and secrecy, activities are happening which need to be brought out and discussed, he said.
