Three deaths in a day push number of COVID-19 victims to 16 in JK, 106 fresh cases reported

SRINAGAR, May 18: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 16 as three more COVID-19 patients died today. At the same time 106 more persons including 55 police personnel and five doctors tested positive for the Corona Virus today.
Reports said that a 75 year old male patient from Hillar area of Kokernag in Anantnag district, 65 year old female patient from Souch area of Kulgam and a 75 year old lady from Kokernag Anantnag died at CD hospital. The man from Hillar was admitted at SMHS hospital where he tested positive and later shifted to CD hospital where his latest reports also came positive for COVID-19.
The 65 years old female from Kulgam was admitted at SMHS hospital and was shifted to CD hospital after her reports came positive and she died instantly after admitting her at CD hospital due to cardiac arrest. The lady from Kokernag had a last stage thyroid cancer was admitted in SMHS where from she was shifted to CD hospital after her reports came positive for COVID-19.
Reports said that 55 police personnel including an SP level officer and five doctors were among the 106 fresh cases of Corona Virus reported today from Kashmir valley. The police personnel are posted at Anantnag and the doctors are posted at SMHS, SKIMS-Bemina and Dental College & Hospital Srinagar.
Anantnag district in South Kashmir reported 59 cases followed by Kulgam and Srinagar 12 cases each, Kupwara four cases, Bandipora two cases while as Baramulla, Budgam, Ganderbal, Shopian and Pulwama districts reported one case each. In the Jammu division, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch and Kathua districts reported two cases each while as a case each was reported from Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur and Ramban districts.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 106 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 12 from Jammu division and 94 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1289.
Out of 1289 positive cases, 664 are active positive, 609 have recovered and 16 have died. Moreover, 34 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals of Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 88,601 test results available, 87,312 samples have tested as negative till May 18, 2020.
Additionally, till date 1,14,788 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 29,208 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 89 in hospital quarantine, 665 in hospital isolation and 18,300 under home surveillance. Besides, 66,511 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 236 positive cases, with 173 active positive, 61 recovered, three deaths; Srinagar has 169 positive cases with 68 active positive, 96 recovered, five deaths; Kulgam has 159 positive cases, with 149 active positive, nine recoveries and one death, Bandipora has 137 positive cases with eight active positive, 128 recovered, one death; Baramulla has 119 positive cases with 35 active positive, 81 recovered, three deaths and Shopian has 109 positive cases with 34 active positive, 75 recovered.
“Kupwara has 101 positive cases with 53 active positive, 48 recovered; Budgam has 58 positive cases, with 27 active positive and 30 recovered cases and one death; Ganderbal has 24 positive cases with nine active cases and 15 recoveries and Pulwama reported 17 positive cases with 11 active positive, six recovered,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 47 positive cases with 19 active positive cases and 27 recoveries, one death; Udhampur has 26 positive cases with six active positive cases, 19 recovered and one death; Samba has 13 positive cases with seven active positive and six recoveries; Rajouri has seven positive cases with three active positive cases and four recovered and Kathua has 34 positive cases with 33 active positive and one recovered.
“Kishtwar has two positive cases with one active positive case and one recovered; Ramban has 24 positive cases with 23 active positive and one recovered; Reasi has three positive cases with two active positive and one recovered, Poonch has three positive cases and all of them are active positive, while Doda as has reported today its first Corona active positive case,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin has informed the people that the best way to protect themselves against COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 meters from others and frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. ‘By doing this people can eliminate viruses that may be on their hands and avoid infection that could occur by then touching your eyes, mouth, and nose’, bulletin further urged upon the people.
