EARLY TIMES REPORT

POONCH, June 10: Anganwadi Workers and Helpers of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory have alleged their neglect in various projects under POSHAN Abhiyaan being controlled by the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) of Social Welfare Department. Many senior Graduate/Matriculation Anganwadi Workers and Helpers having experience of more than twenty to thirty years alleged that department is violating norms framed by the Union Government which has been further framed in SRO-16 of 2004, dated 28/01/2004 wherein Social Welfare Department was supposed to fill 50% posts of Supervisors through J&K Service Selection Recruitment Board, 25% selections through Departmental Selection Committee from among Graduate level Anganwadi Workers having experience of more than 5 years while 25% selections through Departmental Selection Committee from amongst Matriculate Anganwadi Workers having experience of more 10 years.
They said, "Many of them have crossed age of 50 to 55 years and are still waiting for their promotion while as there were many blue eyed workers having least experience, have been promoted. Most of the promotees have close relations with the concerned officials and enjoy political influence.”
Meanwhile, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (AWWHU) issued a statement here today in which it slammed the J&K government for its failure to fulfill their demands as per SRO-16. President of the Union Naseeb Jan said that Anganwadi workers are facing troubles to complete POSHAN Abhiyan (National Nutrition Mission), a flagship programme of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India which ensures convergence with various programmes i.e. Anganwadi service, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, scheme for adolescent girls of MWCD Janani Suraksha Yojana and others.
She further said they are not provided funds against online uploading of data of beneficiaries though they made expenses for the same on their own, adding that the Anganwadi workers and Helpers who had performed their duties in Panchayats and Local Bodies election in 2018 are still waiting for one month’s extra wages as assured by the government.
She appealed to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to fulfill their all demands on priority basis otherwise the Union will be forced to stage a mass demonstration.
