Early Times Report

POONCH, July 19: Although government has taken strong steps against the menace of illegal encroachments over government land but some officials are aiding and abetting such violators by ignoring the incidences of land grabbing.
One such incident has taken place in village Fatehpur of tehsil Mandi in district Poonch where a land grabber is constructing a pacca house in state/government land (Jadh) under the alignment of Mandi-Phagla CRF road which was already stopped by revenue officials.
Sources informed Early Times that some senior revenue officials deployed in tehsil Mandi who are hand in glove with the grabbers asked the latter to take up the construction work of the house in the midnight of Saturday and Sunday to avoid public glare.
Following the suggestion of the Revenue officials, the grabber started the further construction work of illegal house in the night hours on Saturday with the help of his family. According to sources, two brothers of this notorious land grabber are in police, who are providing timely help to him on regular basis, adding that they inform him all the actions which police want to take well in advance.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Poonch and Tehsildar Mandi when got information about the laying of slab for the illegal construction of the house by the land grabber on Monday night, they took immediate action by sending a police party to the spot from Police Station Mandi. However, the land grabber and his associates hid the mixture in Panchayat store while they managed to flee the spot before the police could reach. Locals appreciated the timely action initiated by the Deputy Commissioner, Poonch Rahul Yadav and Tehsildar Mandi, Shezad Latief Khan.
People said that the DC and Tehsildar have protected the public property. The locals further urged administration for dismantling the newly constructed house coming up on the government land at an earliest so that the public property could be saved from illegal grabbing.
