Early Times Report

RAJOURI, July 19: In a case of glaring corruption in the Rural Development Department a Village Level Worker posted in a Panchayat in this district has been threatening and harassing a poor family that was entitled to a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna.
Early Times talked to cross section of people in Balshama Panchayat in the Siote block and found out a VLW (GRS) namely Rakesh Kumar has been threatening the family of Ramesh Chander that they would be entitled to house under PMAY only when they pay him an amount of Rs. 10,000.
“The VLW harassed and intimidated the poor family and forced the family to pay Rs. 10,000 before funds would be allotted to them for construction of house. The poor family managed to raise a loan of Rs. 10,000 and paid the same to the VLW so that they would be entitled to two lakhs as promised by the VLW,” said the locals.
The locals including the aggrieved family members said that the VLW ditched them since Rs. 1, 30,000 was given to them instead of the promised amount of two lakhs. The amount was disbursed in three installments of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 30,000 with the house being constructed in the block and tehsil Siote of this district.
The locals said that stern action needs to be taken against the VLW since he forced a poor family having no source of income to pay bribe of Rs. 10,000 before they could be allotted amount under the PMAY scheme. They demanded a vigilance probe in the matter adding that the department has miserably failed to do their job adding that there are many such cases in the Panchayat.
The concerned VLW could not be contacted as his phone was out of coverage area. The ACD Rajouri Sushil Khajuria assured of action and asked the Early Times to share the video made by the organization in this regard.
