EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, July 27: At a time when the government is putting all its efforts to develop every rural area of Jammu and Kashmir, there are some villages in the border district of north Kashmir that lack basic amenities.
“Sometimes we believe that it is a big sin to live in the far flung areas, while the concept of the global world is being introduced every now and then, but despite these tall claims, we still live in the dark ages”, said Abdul Hamid of Lolab Kupwara.
A local resident of this border area shares his pain and agony by saying that their village Warnou Lolab is almost having more than 12 thousand souls, and it has 5-6 panchayats, but still then after we are lacking the basic facilities.
He told ET that, from past many years, this village is having the old type first Aid center and that also remains on and off, due to which local populace suffers badly. While the JK bank unit is not functional here, even though we had provided land for it.
Last time in the mid night, a pregnant lady was taken to the Sub District Hospital Kupwara, after she complained of labour pain, as we don’t have health care facilities here.
Bashir Ahmad said that, many times in the past we raised our grave issues with the higher authorities, but till date, all promises fall flat.
The residents also complained about non-availability of electricity in the area, people of the area are still using the primitive methods like burning of wood to illuminate the houses.
It is visible that we lack basic facilities that are taking a heavy toll on the lives of people, inhabitants of the villages in this hilly area while expressing anguish over the dilapidated condition roads, the authorities have turned a blind eye towards its repair.
Even though we were promised that, macdamization of the roads will be carried out on priority, but nothing concrete was done till date.
“Our area is without a proper healthcare facility as a result of which the old aged people, female patients have to tread miles to seek consultation for their ailments.
We request the government to pay heed to our considerations, a new type primary health center should be established here, magdamization of roads should be done at the earliest so that people will not feel deprived of basic facilities, said a local resident.
