Social activist demands to establish Commission for Women and Child rights

Jammu, Oct 6: A social activist Tejinder Singh has demanded constitution of Jammu and Kashmir Commission for Women and Child Rights, which will provide speedy trial and offences against women and children and violation of their rights.
Singh said that on the basis of recommendation of United National committee on status of women, Government of India adopted "National commission for women Act" and national commission for women came into existence on June 31,1992. "Till 5 August, 2019 a total of 28 States including Jammu and Kashmir and it of Puducherry and delhi establish comission for women in their respective State and UT. The Jammu and Kashmir act 2018 (Governor act) stand repeated by virtue of J&K Reorganization act2019. Tajinder said that through the abrogation of article 370 has paved the way for National commission for women to act on the complainants filed before them by women from Jammu and Kashmir which was not earlier.' 'J&K has been ranked 10th position in crime against women in the country Tajinder said.' National crime record bureau has revealed that half of cases recorded last year awaiting investigation. J&K last year witnessed 3069 cases of crime against women including rapes, molestation and domestic violence. There have been 1440 cases of assault on women with intent to outrage their modesty in Jammu and Kashmir last year, Singh added. Tajinder Singh said that when the Commission is renotified it will have the power to investigate examine and review all the matters relating to safeguards provided for women and child rights under constitution of India.
