According to the locals health workers are either skipping their duties or enjoying attachment at BMO Kalakote.
They said that most of the health centres in various panchyats or villages remain close, and if the health centers are opened once in blue moon no medicine is available for the masses. “In the remotest area no one from Health Department visits these centres, clerk in BMO office are even more powerful than Director Health Service Jammu, under their patronage, health workers leave rural populace to fend on their own,” said, a resident of Dooga Panglar village of Mogla block.
“We, through Panchs and Sarpanchs, time and again have requested the authorities to open the lone sub-centre in the area which has remained closed for at least last eight months, but no action on ground has been taken till date,” he said, adding that recently the BMO has issued detachment of the health worker and he has been asked to report at the sub-centre, but same is awaited yet.
It is not a single case, there are many centers which are opened occasionally by the concerned staff. “Sub-Centre Brota, Dhalyote, and many other centres are opened as per the convenience of the health workers. Government is spending crores for rural health, but in the absence of adequate monitoring and administrative failure at Block and District levels the health services have closed or remain non-functional”, said a source adding that over dozen of health workers are greasing palm of clerks and other sitting at BMO office Kalakote. “We urge the Lieutenant Governor to act against the Health Officers for creating mess and promoting attachment culture despite, ban on attachments”, they added.
