Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 6: Under the very nose of Health and Medical Education Department officials, a firm that bagged ‘Bio Medical Equipment Maintenance’ contract is allegedly failing this program.
According to the details available with Early Times the firm has failed to repair Critical Care Machine and an X-Ray plant at Government Medical College Doda despite the passage over six months now.
Credible sources revealed that in the month of March the officials at Government Medical College Doda had reported breakdown of critical care equipment and requested the firm to get it repaired however shockingly the agency hasn’t repaired it yet.
“We raised the complaint in the month regarding the Surgical Cautery and requested the firm to repair it. They visited the hospital and told us that they needed to replace the damaged part but then they never returned with a fresh part neither repaired the machine,” an official at GMC Doda told Early Times.
The officials at Government Medical College Doda also had reported the breakdown of an X-Ray plant in the month of March 2020 and requested the firm to get it repaired under Bio Medical Equipment Maintenance programme however the agency has failed to repair it.
This month the department of Radiology again wrote to Medical Superintendent GMC Doda and brought in his notice that the agency, which bagged Bio Medical Equipment Maintenance contract hasn’t responded to them despite the department having informed the agency multiple times.
“X-Ray CR System (scanner) is out of order from 18th of March 2020 till this date. As we have already informed the concerned agency but there was no response from them due to which the X-ray section of the Radiology department is suffering,” reads a letter addressed to Medical Superintend GMC Doda.
A copy of this official communication, accessed from the office Medical Superintend GMC Doda, lies with Early Times.
Officials alleged that the representatives of the firm were showing least interest in repairing the machinery despite the fact that the firm they work for is getting crores of rupees from National Health Mission.
Sources revealed to Early Times that top officials in Jammu and Kashmir administration particularly in the Health and Medical Education department were shielding the firm by not taking action against the firm despite the pathetic services they provide and complaints.
“The Health and Medical Education Department has even blocked Right to Information (RTI) application and nothing is being shared with general public related to Bio Medical Equipment Maintenance program,” an activist told Early Times.
