Kashmir varsities under scanner for not starting bus services
Students, staff seek Raj Bhawan’s intervention

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 15: Even as the varsities in Kashmir have started offline exams despite resentment from the student community, the concerned have failed to restore bus services.
Sources said the SK University of Science and Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir and the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have come under scanner for the irregularities for not resuming the bus services when both the college staff and the students have been visiting their campuses in the wake of exams.
Sources said Islamic University of Science and Technology was already under scanner for the financial irregularities and alleged favoritism in providing transport facilities and that the holding of exams without the bus services has only added the mess.
The aggrieved students and the staff said the concerned varsities failed to restore the bus facilities despite requests.
“The staff is supposed to attend the duties, so when the staff is attending the duties why was the bus service not started,” said a delegation of staff members from the IUST.
Similar complaints poured in from the SKUAST Kashmir which is already under the scanner of the government for the financial irregularities worth millions.
Sources said the corruption and swindling of funds at the SKUAST Kashmir was so brazen that two of the top ranking officials are already under scanner for having grabbed more salary than actually meant for them.
“When the officials at the helm draw salary more than actually meant for them, the plight to financial dealings with regard to the transport can only be imagined,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention that both the varsities have their own fleet of buses but still are unwilling to resume transport. “A big expenditure on the salary for the transport staff, fuel and maintenance has been saved in the process but what happened to that money needs to be probed,” said a senior official.
When contacted the concerned confirmed that the transport was yet to be resumed after the Covid19 lockdown in March.
Meanwhile the aggrieved students have sought the personal intervention Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
