Mehbooba’s party faces most humiliating defeat, secures mere 11 percent of seats
DDC last nail in PDP’ coffin?

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Dec 22: The poll results for the recently held DDC elections were out on Tuesday. If the outcome of this democratic exercise has revealed anything it is that the PDP is diminishing from the scenes of Kashmir’s political woods in a ruthless manner.
As per the reports coming to the fore, the PDP has won mere 26 out of the total 280 seats of the DDC polls. The outcome culminates to mere 11 percent of the entire scenario, reflecting how the party is sinking into oblivion in spite of making hectic efforts to steer the ship from sinking.
Mehbooba Mufti’s command over the party is proving detrimental and the poll results are only reflecting the peoples mood at large. Even the PDP’s strongest bastions in South Kashmir this time too voted against it and secured victory for the rival candidates. Last time, the PDP witnessed such a humiliating defeat was in parliament polls when the party couldn’t win a single parliamentary seat from Kashmir. However, this time as the party was expecting to gain some numbers keeping in view the prolonged detention of its leaders including Mehbooba Mufti, the results were drastically disapproving for the PDP.
Mehbooba after her release had adopted a tough stance and even had openly dared the BJP. However the present results seem to have proven that the rhetoric has no takers in Jammu and Kashmir with people finally realising the deceit and deception being thrown at them by the political leaders.
Two months ago, after being released from 14- month long detention, Mehbooba said that she wouldn’t be holding the tri-colour till Jammu and Kashmir’s special status is not restored. Prior to that when Article 370 was intact, she warned that no one in Kashmir would hold the tri-colour if special status is even touched. However, she justified her recent statement, lamenting that she has made the remarks due to the abrogation of Article 370.
A month later, Mehbooba Mufti made a complete U-Turn in her assertion. She has now stated that she will hold the tricolour and the flag of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir together, saying as an MLA she had reaffirmed her faith in the J-K Constitution and the sovereignty and integrity of India as both are inseparable.
“I have taken an oath of the J-K Constitution when I became the MLA for the first time and I affirm my faith in the Constitution of J-K and uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India – both of which are interlinked. J-K flag and Indian flag, I will hold both these flags together,” the former J&K chief minister told reporters at the end of her five-day visit to Jammu – her first after release from over one-year-long detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
