Present regime deaf and dumb: Estate Deptt daily wagers
‘Can’t manage expenses in Rs 6750; regularize us, implement Minimum Wages Act’

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 18: The daily wagers working in Estates Department staged a massive protest here on Friday to seek their regularization and implementation of “Minimum Wages Act.”
The protesters said that they have been working in the department on meager wages of Rs 6750/ per month for the past many years and till date the government hasn’t framed any policy for them. “We were told after the abrogation of Article 370 that Minimum Wages Act that is applicable across the country will become applicable in J&K also but the promise proved to be a hoax,” they said.
Protesters said that whosoever has come into power till date has “suck their blood.” “During political regimes we worked in the residences of all the ministers. Everyone promised us that justice will be done with us but no one fulfilled his commitment,” they added.
“The present regime has turned a blind eye towards the plight of 61000 daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir and is not even ready to listen to us. We have sat on dharna so that we can be heard. It seems the government is deaf and dumb, ” protesters added.
They threatened to intensify the stir if their demands were not met.
