Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 1: The “anti-encroachment” drive launched by the administration at the Bhathindi area, in the outskirts of Jammu, has snowballed into a big political controversy.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday criticized the inhuman action of the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to forcibly evict families from the Bhathindi area. Party regretted the BJP controlled present regime is shamelessly rendering helpless people homeless.
Addressing a press conference, PDP spokesperson Varinder Singh Sonu termed this action of the authorities as cruel and inhuman. He said that people who have occupied this land for the last 50 years were forcibly evicted without giving any reason.
“These helpless families have been living in the area for the last 50 years but their houses and business established were demolished without any reason”, he pointed out and regretted that such action of the authorities indicated that the government was working with a biased mindset to create a fear among some sections of the society.
“Although we have no hope from the present autocratic regime, we appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to take immediate measures to restore the confidence among the helpless people”, he said.
“We have authentic information that authorities have already allotted this land to some outsiders so locals were forced to leave their homes and hearths”, he said and regretted that instead of creating job avenues for the unemployed youth of Jammu and Kashmir the present regime is shamelessly indulged into snatching livelihood of the people.
He said that displaced families were ready to pay the price of the land but authorities were adamant to demolish their residential houses and bussiness establishments with the help of the police and other forces.
PDP spokesperson further pointed out that most of the families displaced from the Bhathindi area have already left their homes and hearths due to militancy.
Sohit Sharma District President Jammu Urban, Ashok Singh Chib, Naveen Sharma, and Neeraj Chandel were also present in the press conference.
