Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 1: Nearly three months have passed after the administration has given an assurance that the holiday will be announced on the birth anniversary of the last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh.
On January 9 representatives of Yuva Rajput Sabha called on the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan.
The delegation discussed their long-pending demand for the declaration of a holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji on 23rd September.
The Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to the delegation and immediately issued directions for the constitution of a Committee at the Government level over the said issue.
Almost three months have been passed but there is no progress on the assurance which was given to the delegation. The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) had also passed a resolution to declare holiday on September 23rd-birthday of last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh.
The general house of JMC, comprising Mayor, Deputy Mayor and all elected councillors, in its meeting on July 17 2019, had unanimously resolved “to honour the sentiments of the public by accepting the long-pending demand of Jammu people to declare a holiday on the birthday of late Maharaja Hari Singh.”
Jammu-Kashmir Legislative Council had also passed a resolution on January 24, 2017 to declare holiday on September 23.
On January 25, 2017, BJP had promised to fulfill this demand to respect sentiments of people.
