Early Times Report
Jammu, June 22: The `self styled' champions of Jammu cause, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), despite being a coalition partner, has failed to stop discrimination with Jammu region as the state plan for roads and building sector has further reduced.
The alleged discriminatory attitude of successive governments which was vociferously criticized by BJP leadership at all levels and platforms and specifically during assembly elections in the state has become a mute spectator to the issue.
Sources informed Early Times that the state plan for Roads and Building Department especially for Jammu province has been witnessing reduction in the last three years.
"In the financial year 2013-14, the state plan for construction of bridges in Jammu province was Rs. 32.5 crores. The amount showed sharp decline in the next financial year with merely Rs. 25 crores were sanctioned for bridges construction in Jammu province while in the current financial year of 2015-16, the department has instructed the officials of R&B deputed in Jammu province to restrict their annual plan for Jammu region to Rs. 20 Crores for the construction of bridges", sources in civil secretariat informed.
Moreover, the annual plan for construction of roads in Jammu province also has been recording declining trend for the last three years. "In the financial year 2014-15, a total of Rs. 150 crores was sanctioned for roads of Jammu province while for the current financial year, the department officials have been ordered to restrict their plan to Rs. 125 crores", sources said.
Sources further informed that Government, on Thursday last had asked the Chief Engineers of Road and Building department to prepare plan within two days and subsequently to submit the same but officials failed to prepare the plan within this shortest time period and they are still preparing it.
If sources are to be believed the reason behind reducing the state plan for Jammu region is to divert the more and more funds to Kashmir valley to carry out constructions due flood damage. "Due to this move, the real purpose of equal development of all regions is defeated. The Jammu region which had already been discriminated on all fronts by the all successive governments in the state, had been betrayed this time also despite being the BJP Government in the state," they alleged.
