Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 22: Following clear cut directions from 10 Janpath, the dissident Congress leaders including former Ministers, Legislators and Member Parliament (MP) who were earlier reluctant to accept the new Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) leadership headed by Ghulam Ahmad Mir today seems to have fallen in line.
"The presence of certain rebels in today's day long convention of Congress executive members and delegates organized at Sainik Farms here, is pointer to the fact that PCC president G A Mir managed to pull the strings via New Delhi directing the dissidents to follow policies and programmes or face action," reliable sources in PCC revealed to Early Times and further added that "pressure of party high-command yielded results following which, Congress today presented a united face during one day convention to executive committee of Pradesh Congress Committee here today".
Loyalists of former chief minister and sitting Leader of Opposition (LoP), Ghulam Nabi Azad including Tara Chand, ex-Deputy Chief Minister and Jugal Kishore Sharma, ex-Minister, former MP and party senior leader Janak Raj Gupta were also in today's meeting which was presided over by PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir. Furthermore, former Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control and party Sr Vice President, Sham Lal Sharma and former deputy chief minister Tara Chand, who are learnt to be against each other over number of issues too shared the dais today and exchanged pleasantries.
Sources in Congress further said that party high command has given clear direction to the dissidents that factionalism would not be tolerated at any cost so today most of the people attended meeting and reposed faith in the leadership of Mir, who was appointed PCC chief on first week of March this year.
After his appointed as PCC chief, some leaders have raised banner of revolt against him. Most of the leaders who had raised revolt against Mir belonged to the camp of Ghulam Nabi Azad but most of the them have finally fallen in the line now following directions of their political masters at Delhi.
Sources said that Congress high command has made it clear to the dissidents that party is facing one of its worst period, so factionalism at this juncture of time would not be tolerated.
Insiders in Congress further shared that "there were some neutral leaders who have no allegiance with any of the groups but are loyal to the party's policies and programmes had intervened and persuaded the dissidents to make a comeback as the entire party is not in a position to allow mudslinging and backbiting against each other.
"None of you had won in the Assembly elections. Then just see where are standing in the present situation. Had you won the polls, then, you all had a reason to oppose Mir's leadership. Now, when you yourself are not in a position then how can you politics in groups. It would be better to fight the ruling coalition united failing which no one will be able to yield in fruitful results in respective Constituencies," were some of the suggestions/advisories by the neutral group of Congress.
