JAMMU, June 22: Angered over the killing of two persons in separate incidents of police firing in the past 17 days, home department, headed by chief minister Mufti Mohammad Syed, has reprimanded the state police authorities for being so unprofessional in approach. After the Sunday's killing of alleged narco-smuggler Tarsem Lal Bhagat in SOG firing near Domana police station, the unhappy home department conveyed to the higher police officers over phone that it was not satisfied with their style of working. It made it clear that the civilian killings by the "trigger-happy" cops would not be tolerated at any cost, official sources said. Sources said the home department officials, who also had a meeting with senior police officers, asked them to issue directives to field officers to exercise restraint while dealing with public. The chief minister has also expressed his unhappiness over the two killings, the sources informed. In the last 17 days, two youth have lost their lives in police firing. On June 4 last, Jagjit Singh of Chohala, R S Pura, was killed in police firing on violent protesters near Satwari. A cop was arrested in this connection and booked in a murder case under section 302 of RPC. SSP, Jammu, and SHO of Satwari police station were transferred, following protests against them. Two magisterial were ordered in this regard. In the Tarsem killing, five SOG men have been arrested and booked in a murder case under section 302 of RPC.
