Early Times Report

Kishtwar, July 25: The J&K PCC is a divided house nowadays as groupism continues to hunt it even after the change of guard in the state.
The first display of groupism came to the fore at the time of appointment of Ghulam Ahmed Mir as PCC president; concerted campaign was launched by some senior leaders to demand his ouster, though fail till date. The rival group has even remained away from organisational events like celebrating of Rajiv Gandhi's day etc.
Abdul Gani Vakil, Prem Sagar Aziz, and Gulchain Singh Charak who were sulking since Ghulam Ahmed Mir's appointment as state unit chief and these senior leaders had described the appointment of JKPCC president by the Congress high command as arbitrary, undemocratic and unfortunate.
They had said that the party was completely under the control and command of tainted persons against whom serious cases were pending with courts, but all being the loyalists of Azad were removed from the basic membership when Mir took a hard stand and pressurised the high command to remove these leaders.
Sources said, even Azad backed Mir and signed the letter in which the disciplinary committee had decided to expel the three leaders from the party. Mir who is known for his close links with the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, has further warned some leaders to maintain discipline and unity otherwise they too will be shown the door.
Mir is trying his best to strengthen the party, but some decisions of the newly appointed president has created displeasure within the party cadres.
Mir blamed all the former Minister's of Congress from Jammu for the defeat and termed them as corrupt while as Mir himself got defeated in the recent held assembly elections with a low margin of votes. Mir further while mentioning the name of former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, levelled serious allegations against him. Tara Chand and some other ex-ministers lodged a written complaint to the high command against the party president for targeting and insulting them in public without knowing the facts. The another rival group, which feels that Mir has isolated them and that seniors are not being respected, have also met some leaders in New Delhi to seek Mir's ouster, but have not been able to succeed yet.
While Mir had invited these leaders for the Eid Milan in Jammu, a large group of leaders decided to ignore it. The display of groupism came at a time when the congress party is in opposition both in state and at the centre. The Congress is already on a slippery ground in the Jammu as well as Kashmir and its former ally NC, is much stronger. Annoyed with the open display of dissent by senior local Congress leaders, Ambika Soni Incharge of J&K had said the party would not tolerate groupism and promised to sort out the issue.
Meanwhile Congress young faces have also left no stone unturned to promote groupism in the party as Salman Soz former national spokesperson of the AICC, was recently removed from the post and appointed Media penalist of the party and Salman Nizami who is close associate of Ghulam Nabi Azad was all set to get a place in AICC Media cell being his active role in media and past experience, but after the intervention of Saif udin Soz, Nizami couldn't succeed to get AICC's media cell post, and now he is accommodated in PCC in a low post.
Former General Secretary Rashid Choudhary, who was removed from the PCC is also not happy and has also lodged a complaint for appointing him as General Secretary being Junior and removing Rashid from the same post. On the other hand, Ghulam Ahmed Mir's son Naseer Mir and Madan Lal Sharma's Son Satish Sharma are also in the race to take over Youth PCC President's post from recently appointed Youth President Pranav who could be removed being as Junior and fails to impress the party leadership.
