| In J&K, toppers apply for Class-IV jobs! | | |

Srinagar, July 25: Candidates having no less than 90 percent marks in Class 12 have applied for Class-IV job in J&K, reflecting a sad state of affairs in the state.
The selection list of candidates for the posts of Class-IV in the secretariat sub-ordinate service, advertised vide notification number 01-GAD of 2014, dated 27-06-2014, which was published in Srinagar dailies on Saturday makes a surprising revelation. The candidate with 92.12 percent has topped the list while as the cut off point was witnessed at 88.24 percent.
The shocking development has unmasked the claims of successive regimes in the state of providing employment opportunities to the youth.
Sources said as the advertisement for the Class-IV posts was out last year, there were thousands of young applicants holding Master's degrees.
The applicants included many toppers in Class 10 and 10+2. "It was no less than a humiliation for the entire system. It really put us in a difficult situation. The post of a Class-IV cannot be given to a postgraduate with high ranks and marks," a senior official told Early Times. He said it was decided to accept applications from those candidates only who posses 10+2 qualification and reject those who are over qualified for the post.
"We again were caught between the devil and the deep sea when we witnessed that again thousands of postgraduates came up with the applications, mentioning their respective qualifications not more than class 12. We caught them immediately as they had more than 90 percent marks in 10+2. It meant that the candidates with such promising ability could have dropped out later. But we had no option but to accept their applications as per the laid down procedure," said the official pleading anonymity.
Now, when the final selection list is out, it reveals how many promising candidates have applied for the Class-IV jobs. "Now, therefore on the basis of performance in interview, coupled with the weightage of the academic merit, the selection list is hereby notified," reads the GAD's notification on Saturday.
The candidate who has topped the list has secured 92.12 percent while the next one has 91.52 percent in her kitty. Out of the 148 posts, 71 are in the open merit category with the last candidate securing 88.24 percent.
Many surveys have revealed alarming rate of unemployment in the state, and the inaction of the government is taking toll among the jobless youth. As experts have ringed the alarm bells that such a situation could lead to a disaster in future, no concrete measures seem to be in the offing.
The figures reveal that in Valley there are more than 29034 graduates who are unemployed and in Jammu province the number of jobless graduates is 12426. Kashmir division has 46703 jobless youths who have passed 10+2 in various streams while in Jammu the number is 27212.
The survey also reveals that more than 4500 registered engineering degree holders are jobless in the state while the number of unemployed diploma holders is more than 8500. |
