Mufti seeks peoples' mandate to pursue peace, development agenda
PDP translated its promises into realities

Bijbehara, Apr 13: Seeking a decisive mandate of the people to pursue agenda of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir, patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that PDP is contesting Lok Sabha elections to send trusted and credible representatives in the parliament so as to vociferously take up people's issue in the Lok Sabha.
Addressing series of roadside meetings at Akora, Kanalwan, Kheran, Trihama, Wahama, Marhama and others areas of Bijbehara segment of Anantanag parliamentary constituency Mufti said the aim of PDP is to create an atmosphere of peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. Seeking support of the people to solve all contentious issues, Mufti said the PDP has created a new space within the democratic system for the resolution of Kashmir issue. "Having emerged as a strong regional force, PDP has to play a crucial role in the new democratic discourse to the resolution of vexed Kashmir problem", Mufti said adding PDP had proved how to facilitate peace initatives in this region during its brief tenure in the government.
"Give us a decisive mandate and we will solve the Kashmir issue by involving all stake holders", Mufti promised and added that PDP has potential to evolve a wide-range consensus on the solution of this problem.
"After 2002 PDP had proved how to carry forward the agenda of peace and reconciliation along with the good governance", he said and added that PDP had set an example of governance by bringing transparency and accountability in the administration.
Asserting that peace, development and people's welfare forms the core of the PDP's agenda, Mufti said the achievements of the previous PDP led government were very much visible on the ground and it had translated its promises into realities. "We had created conducive atmosphere for initiating peace process and taking Confidence Building Measures (CBMs)", he said and pointed out that peace prevailing all along the borders from Kathua to Kargil was result of the reconciliatory policies and peace initiatives taken during the PDP-Congress regime. "Our politics is not to attain power.
Aim of our party is to establish lasting peace in this region and restoring dignity and honour of the people of this State", he said and asserted that by facilitating the peace and confidence building initiatives PDP has positively transformed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that it was all due to the efforts of the PDP that crossing points on the Line of Control (LoC) were opened for trade and movement. "It is my dream to remove the wall of hatred between India and Pakistan and to make J&K as an island of peace in this region", he said and asserted that PDP was committed to fight for justice and rule of law in the state. "With the support of people, PDP would redouble its efforts towards achieving its objective of peace and tranquility in the region. Former Minister and MLA Bijbehara Abdul Rehman Veeri, Mufti Mohammad Amin, Abdul Salim Tantray, Imran Khaki, Abdul Gani and others also addressed series of meeting.
