Why is Omar interested in sending Azad to Centre? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 13: The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah these days is trying to seek votes for Congress candidate Ghulam Nabi Azad and send him to the Parliament. Omar's role in sending Azad to Centre is for his personal benefit as he will be the only coalition candidate for next term of CM, if UPA-III government is formed at the Centre. The NC working president is well aware of the fact that the only challenge for the CM seat is from Azad, and if Congress party is able to get more seats than NC in upcoming Assembly elections, then Omar may not be in the race for the chair. From the very beginning since Azad filed his nomination papers in Kathua, Omar has been asking people to send Azad to New Delhi along with his father Farooq Abdullah so that both of them become part of the UPA-III and he has a free hand in the state. Sources told Early Times that NC bargained with Congress party for going for pre-poll alliance during Lok Sabha election with a condition that alliance should be formed for assembly elections as well. It is widely known that NC is always ready for the pre-poll alliance for Assembly elections but Congress leaders of J&K are against it. Thus NC leadership bargained with Congress high command and said that for Assembly elections also alliance should remain intact. The NC working president has two fears in his mind, one that Congress should not break alliance with NC and form alliance with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and another is that he only should be the alliance candidate for CM post after Assembly elections. The biggest hurdle for Omar Abdullah is Azad, who has served two and a half year as J&K CM during 2005 to 2008. If Azad is back in political scene in J&K, it will be a great loss for him and NC. Thus since Azad filed his nomination papers, Omar is trying to send him back to New Delhi and enjoys break free tenure as Chief Minister. |
