At GMCH, Patients forcibly referred to private hospitals
4/14/2014 12:20:54 AM

Jammu, Apr 13: Patients at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have become golden goose for gluttonous doctors, who have linked with private hospital and forcing patients to get treatment outside instead of GMC.
An aggrieved father who is down with burn injuries told Early Times that GMC's doctors have proximity with private hospitals and nursing homes. "They (Doctors) are not taking care, force Patients to go to private hospitals if they want to save their lives", said, Suresh father of Nidhi who is suffering with burn injuries.
"On April 11, I visited JK Medicity, a private hospital, but I refused get check-up of my daughter when I came to know that Dr Sohail Zahoor, Lecturer General Surgery, GMCH is examining the patients there", Suresh said, adding that on March 22, 2014 he went to GMCH for treatment of his daughter but same doctor had refused to examine Nidhi, for which he (Doctor) is getting salary.
"Even being asked, why they refuse to check-up patients at GMCH? Why they prefer shift patients in private hospital? But cannot satisfied me", Suresh said, narrating that he shifted his child at New Delhi, after repeated ignorance by doctors and denied proper medical care for two consecutive days at GMCH Jammu on March 22.
The child, Nidhi Sharma, according to her father Suresh Kumar was admitted in Ward Number 7, bed number 41 in the Surgical Department where she was prescribed dressings, but astoundingly, he had to get the dressings done on her from a private clinic even during her admission in the GMC as she was not attended to. The father of four years old baby Nidhi Sharma of Billawar in Kathua district broke down with tears rolling down his cheeks that two days back his daughter Nidhi sustained burn injuries in a fire incident at his house.
"The fire caused serious injuries to Nidhi's back following which she was rushed to the GMC, Jammu, but unfortunately the staff paid hardly any attention towards my daughter for two full days," said Suresh Kumar. "Despite repeated requests, no one from the hospital staff was willing to attend my critically injured daughter and as helpless parents we had no other choice but to see our daughter in agonizing pain. She was left at the mercy of God. Being a poor family what could we do under such circumstances," he added. Like Suresh's daughter there were many lying unattended in the hospital ward, said Suresh while leaving for Delhi.
