More funds for Kashmir's water bodies | Discrimination with Jammu | | Rustam
JAMMU, Apr 13: NC-Congress coalition government has once again approached the Congress-led UPA Government and demanded more funds for the preservation of Kashmir's water bodies and environment. A report from Srinagar revealed this. The April 12 report, inter-alia, read: "At the 41st AGM of Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK), director Tourism Kashmir, Talat Pervaiz, while responding to the questions in a question-answer session said the department has taken up the issue of conservation of water bodies like Khushal Sar, Hokersar, Anchar lake and Gil Sar with Union Tourism Ministry. We will soon send a formal proposal in this behalf to the Union Ministry, which has in principle agreed to provide Rs 20 crore for these projects". "Tourism players as the stakeholders had an important role in the preservation of (Kashmir's) water bodies and environment...Tourism department is promoting Kashmir...across the globe which will definitely help the people associated with the tourism trade...Tourism traders should come forward with their grievances and tourism department would try its level best to resolve them," the report also said. There was nothing whatsoever in the report which even remotely suggest that the state government has also the fast decaying the Jammu province's water bodies like Mansar, Surinsar and Dalsar have any place in its scheme of things. A number of non-NC and non-Congress legislators from Jammu province repeatedly drew the attention of the concerned authorities to these water bodies, but with no result. The authorities virtually rejected out of hand the demands of these legislators to tell the people of Jammu province that they must keep their mouth shut and not put forth any demand seeking justice for them and their province. It is important to note that the Congress-NC coalition had ignored the Jammu's water bodies between 2011 and 2014 as well. On the other hand, the government expended Rs 2874.15 lakh on the Kashmir's Dal and Nigeen lakes during 2011-2012, Rs 2538.77 lakh during 2012-2013 and Rs 1372.21 lakh in 2013-2014. As for the Jammu's precious but decaying Mansar, Surinsar and Dalsar lakes, the NC-Congress coalition totally and brazenly ignored them. These lakes got only peanuts. What is all this? It is not fair. Jammu province is part and parcel of the state. It deserves fair treatment at all levels and in all spheres. It would do well to earmark the required funds for the preservation and beautification of the Jammu's water bodies. |
