3 foreign militants, 2 police cops killed in separate encounters in Kashmir | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Apr 13: Three foreign militants and two police personnel got killed in separate shoot-outs in Kashmir valley today. First shoot-out took place in Khrew area of Pulwama district with the second taking place in Ahmad Nagar area of summer capital. Reports reaching here said that two foreign militants tried their best to barge into the residence of Youth National Conference leader, Yawar Masudi in the Bapora-Khrew area of Pampore in Pulwama district. The militants fired upon the police personnel posted for the security of Youth National Conference leader. The initial gun burst from the militants led to serious injuries to Head Constable Abdul Hamid and Constable Vinod Kumar. Both Hamid and Vinod were shifted to the hospital, but died on the way to hospital. The other police personnel posted fired upon the militants who managed to flee, but not before decamping with an SLR of one of the slain policemen. The firing created panic in the area and security forces were rushed to cordon off the area. The militants managed to cover some distance before being trapped in the Gotran locality of the Khrew area. A joint party of Police, Central Reserve Police Force and Army managed to eliminate two militants and also recovered arms and ammunition from them. The identity of the slain militants has been established. They have been identified as Abdullah Ghauri and Abu Zar, both residents of Abottabad-Pakistan. Militant outfit Al-Shohda Brigade has claimed responsibility for the attack. Srinagar based defence spokesman, Lt Col N N Joshi said that in a swift operation launched by a Rashtriya Rifles unit along with CRPF and Police in response to killing of two police personnel who were at the personal security of NC leader Yawar Masudi resulted in elimination of both the militants and recovery of two AK-47 rifles along with snatched weapons and ammunition. "At 2:15 PM two militants with an aim to assassinate NC leader Yawar Masudi tried to enter his house near Khrew in Pulwama District. However, on being engaged by his personal security staff, the militants martyred two policemen before fleeing from the location. On receiving the information, an army unit immediately responded and launched a swift operation and cordoned off the area along with CRPF and SOG of Police," said Lt Col Joshi. The defence spokesman said that trapped militants opened fire which was effectively retaliated resulting into elimination of both the militants. Besides two AK-47 rifles and ammunition, the weapons which were snatched from the policemen were also recovered from the site. In the evening a foreign militant got killed in a shoot-out with the police and security forces in the Ahmad Nagar- Buchpora area here. The slain militant has been identified as Mehmood Bhai alias Hurera. The shoot-out took place when the militant got encircled by a party of police and security forces after they received inputs that some militants are moving on the 90 feet road in Ahmad Nagar area. The gun-shots triggered panic in the area with people feeling scared about their security. It was after some time people came to know about the killing of the militant. |
