Sukha of Rajasthan bags Bharnara dangal title

JAMMU, June 16: Wrestler Sukha of Rajasthan clinched the 51st Bharnara Kesari dangal title outplaying Vinod of Khanna in Punjab in the main bout that took place at Bharnara in tehsil Majalta of district Udhampur.
Sukha faced tough resistance from Vinod before beating latter in 22-minute long bout. Winners and runners of the main bout were presented with cash prizes of Rs 12,000 and Rs 9,000 by chief guest, president of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma.
The second main bout won by Kaka of RS Pura, who defeated Lalli of Ludhiana thereby bagged Rs 9,000 cash prize. Runners-up, Lalli got Rs 7,000. In third main bout, Kaka of Dinanagar in Punjab emerged winner outplaying Sukha of Ludhiana while fourth bout went to Parveen of Khanna after he trounced Liakat Ali of Panthal in Udhampur.
This dangal was organised by Bharnara Dangal Committee in collaboration with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association. In all, 38 bouts were decided in this day-long event. Prominent among those present were Varinder Kumar Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Balwant Rai, Bharam Singh (Bittu), Karnail Singh, Bodh Raj, Makhan Lal Sharma, Chain Singh (all Sarpanch), Neeraj Kesar, Shiv Ram, Varinder Kumar Sharma, Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Girdwar Yash Paul Singh and Lochan Singh.
Other Results: Chinni of Banaras bt Harey of Jallandhar, Bhima of Gurdaspur bt Kala Nag of Banaras, Pawan Kumar of Rajasthan bt Billa of Amritsar, Danesh of Banaras bt Kalu of Jallandhar, Feroj Din of Ramnagar bt Rinku of Roun-Domail, Shiva of Dinanagar bt Nazir of Roun-Domail, Sonu of Kathua bt Chandan of Banaras, Gurjeet of Harayana bt Raju of Ramkot, Monu of Gurdaspur bt Maskeen of Kathua and Roshan of Dinanagar bt Davinder of Manwal.

SRINAGAR, June 16: Being organised by Pulwama Police as part of the Raising Day celebrations under Civil Action Programme, a Twenty20 Cricket Tournament got underway at District Police Lines Pulwama, here today.
In the inaugural match, Smart Boys Cricket Club (SBCC) Rajpora defeated Kisrigam Cricket Club by 68 runs. Batting first, SBCC Rajpora set a target of 144 runs for eight wickets, which, in reply, Kisrigam could not chase and bundled out for just 75 runs in 14 overs.
Earlier, the knock out competition was declared open by Senior Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, Tejinder Singh. In total, eight teams of the district are taking part in this tournament.
Meanwhile, in Summer Twenty20 Tournament at DPL Kupwara, Vimper XI Kupwara made a winning start outplaying Anwar Abad XI.
In all, 16 teams are taking part in this knock-out event. Earlier, the competition was declared open by SP Kupwara, Abdul Jabbar. In the meantime, Police XI emerged winner in a friendly match played against Sopore XI at DPL Sopore. SP Sopore, Abdul Qayoom gave away the winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes.

Chess body felicitates Sumit Grover

JAMMU, June 16: All Jammu and Kashmir Chess Association today felicitated top chess player of the state, Sumit Grover for his recent achievement at the national level.
In a function held here, Association vice president, Baldev Raj appreciated Sumit for bringing laurels to the state by way of winning Rs 50,000 cash prize KIIT International Platinum Chess Tournament held at Bubneshwar.
The function was also attended by president of the Association, Atul Gupta and other senior players. In his message, Atul hoped that the achievement by Sumit will go a long way in encouraging the youngsters practicing the game of Chess in the state.



LPU starts 50 entrepreneurial projects

JAMMU, June 16: In addition to getting suitably placed with top global companies, Lovely Professional University (LPU) students also started more than 50 entrepreneurial projects during the session 2013-14.
At present many students are adopting entrepreneurship as a career move and have started various business ventures even before they graduated. The examples of entrepreneurship among students are in different domains. Some of the businesses started by students include: My Radio campus: LPU ON AIR; Wannabuy; N-Books; Chinese Corner, Froot-Shoot; Go-Sporty and many more. To ensure entrepreneurship among students, LPU is providing hands-on experience to students through various workshops, lectures, interactions and more.
A huge departmental store "Wannabuy" of the students for the students and by the students is being run within the university. Right from logistics to procurement, HR, marketing, sales, and finances everything is done by students themselves. Similarly, 'n-books' is another business started by LPU students which is a very innovative way of selling books. It is a web portal from where students can buy costly books on great discounts. Sports related products and accessories are being sold by students through their venture 'Go Sporty'. Another team of students have launched an online Radio project "My Radio campus:
LPU ON AIR". For this, students have themselves designed a website to make informative and entertaining programs available on air for on campus students. It is also an advertising tool for vendors inside the campus.



Summer Camp concludes at Sun Rise Institute

JAMMU, June 16: Sun Rise Coaching Institute concluded the 15-day innovative Summer Camp 2014 at Pargwal in Akhnoor tehsil today.
The impressive and colorful camp was a part of the plan to augment togetherness and nurture the best in each and every child with indoctrine of conscientious concern.
The students took part in variety of funfilled and scintillating activities, under the guidance and
supervision of Preety Kohli.
Some of the main elements of the camp were Basic English speaking, glass painting, pot painting, personality development activities and improving writing skills.
Campers were classified in small groups with participants of their own age, who attended daily classes.
Through spoken English classes, campers were enriched with vocabulary and correct pronunciation.
The classes helped campers to explore knowledge in various fields. The children experienced great joy and motivation in learning new techniques and creative art work.
Apart from learning skills, children also utilized the camp days in nurturing their inherent skill and talent, besides development their friendship with other students.
On final day, students participated in handwriting competition. In junior group, Ayush Khajuria and Anu Manhas won the competition while in senior group, Keshav Sharma, Rekha Chib and Neha Sharma remained victorious.
Speaking on the occasion, Preety Kohli, camp co-ordinator said such camps develop the kinaesthetic skill like special intelligence, logistic intelligence and intra structural potentialities in the growing kids besides development of team spirit.
About 20 students participated in the 15 days Summer camp. Prominent students, who participated include Jatin Sharma, Varun Kumar, Mannu Sharma, Avay Singh, Kritika Sharma, Arun Kumar,Gulshan Sharma, Simran Chib, Sonia Devi, Krishna Singh, Rajay Chadak, Rishav Singh, Pratiksha Verma and Abhishek Verma.
