Khowjabagh locals protest against 'hit and run' case death

Baramulla, June 16: The death of an old aged person sparked massive protests in North Kashmir's Khowjabagh area of District Baramulla on Monday evening when locals alleging Jammu and Kashmir police is hiding the matter forcing people came on roads amid anti-government slogans.
According to protestors the aged person identified namely as Abdul Ahad Bhat s/o Ghulam Ahmad Bhat r/o khowjabagh on the way to Medical Shop(Healing Touch) situated along roadside of Baramulla-Srinagar National Highway, to purchase some medicines was hit by a speedy car driven by local person in a hit and run case.
Though passersby immediately shifted injured to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Baramulla where from he was referred to Bone and Joint Hospital Barazulla fromwhere the critically injured was referred to Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) Soura where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
"News of death of an aged person spread like a forest fire in the village, an eyewitness said, adding, "the villagers protested against highhandedness of Police and Baramulla- Srinagar National Highway."
According to Ghulam Mohammad Bhat cousin of the deceased, one of the eye witness had even identified the person who allegedly involved in this 'hit and run' case. Accusing police for inaction, he alleged that they are not arresting the main culprit because they have some political lineage with top political leaders.
Mohammad Ayoub a local resident said that the person who had hit an old aged person needs to be punished as per law of land and thus we appeal to the officials of the district that kindly take a stern action against him.
Meanwhile after getting information SHO Police Station Baramulla rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters but they remain adamant.
Station House Officer (SHO) Baramulla Masrat Ahmad said that police have lodged an FIR 161/2014 under section 279-337 RPC and are investigating the matter.
