Early Times Report JAMMU, July 12: Taking exception to the observance of July 13, as Martyrs Day at the Government level, the former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that it cannot be a national day as the happenings linked with it were of communal frenzy. Prof. Gupta pointed out that the day is observed in theoretic Pakistan, Pak-held areas of the state as also the secessionists of Kashmir along with the ruling National Conference and the Congress in the valley.He questioned if it was a National Day, why these parties especially the Congress do not observe it in Jammu as also in Delhi and in other parts of the country. Prof. Gupta said that in fact the Day was linked with the communal thinking having a foreign hand and the leader of July 13, 1931, incidents was a foreigner who had come to the valley as a cook of an English Officer as they wanted to teach a lesson to Maharaja Hari Singh for supporting the cause of independence of India at the Round Table Conference at London. |
