Omar hits hard at PDP for remaining mum on IIT to Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has resented the granting of IIT at Jammu. The CM had infact hit at the PDP for not standing up to the 'concerns' of the Kashmir region. Omar addressing a rally at Baramulla said the then NC MPs had got central universities both at Kashmir and Jammu region. The CM had carefully twisted facts here. The fact is Central university was at the first place granted to Jammu but in a planned manner shifted to Kashmir. Fearing that the Jammu region could again erupt, as the decision had come close to the 2008 Amarnath land row, the CM was forced to take to up the issue with the Central government which had no other option but to allot central university in the Jammu region. The announcement of IIT at Jammu made by the finance minister Arun Jaitley was nothing new but it was always on the card. The BJP led NDA government had only executed the intent and promise of the previous government. Omar is a CM of the State and not only of Kashmir region. He has this time also behaved in parochial manner with provincial mindset. The Jammu region has always been made to play a second fiddle to the Kashmir region for much longer period. It's because of the BJP that its issues were highlighted and it slowly started getting its voice. The Congress, which though has main stay in Jammu, but its leadership in Kashmir was given premium, had also asserted the rights of the Jammu region. It's because of the combined assertion of BJP and Congress that aspirations of the Jammu region couldn't be wished away and this is adding to the discomfort of the CM. Omar is now trying to make it a regional issue with an eye on the forthcoming elections and for it is targeting PDP, which had virtually stream-rolled the NC in the just concluded parliamentary elections. |
