Early Times Report

Pulwama, Nov 14: The Tral constituency which is very hot and volatile area and known as hot bed of militancy, witness 1% voting during the LokSabha polls held early this year.
This time the hyper sensitive constituency is all set to witness a clash of sorts in the upcoming assembly elections beginning from November 5, between Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
According to political analysts the fate of this assembly seat is uncertain as fragmentation of votes can tilt result in favor of any of these parties.
The contest has become more difficult now as BJP is also eyeing the constituency and it is working out a strategy to outsmart the regional parties here while as in the last assembly elections Party got just 300 votes here.
"Constituency has nearly 3000 migrant votes and 4000 Sikh votes and if constituency witnesses boycott, it will brighten the chances of BJP here because boycott will not impact the migrant voters and there are ample chances they will vote for BJP," said Ab Rashid, a Government teacher.
However the sources in BJP said that it is expected that party might give mandate to Sheikh Abdul Rasheed , who was a teacher by profession in Madrasi-taleem-Islam and he has a strong vote bank in the constituency.
"Usually votes of Sikhs used to go in the favor of Congress but this time the tilt is mainly towards BJP. In the last assembly elections Rasheed got 2997 votes which are about 8 percent of total votes polled which is a big share. With 7000 Sikh and migrant voters and his own vote bank he can emerge surprise winner in a constituency which is known as the hot bed of militancy," he said.
In the previous elections National Conference has emerged winner three times; independent three times, PDP and Congress one time each.
In the 2008 assembly elections out of the 36510 votes PDP got 10393 votes that are 28 percent of total votes polled and registered win by 3807 votes. While as the runner up candidate Muhammad Ahsraf Bhat got 6586 votes, 18 percent of total votes polled. Independent candidate Ghulam Muhammad Mir got 3733 votes and while as Surinder Singh of Congress got 3158 votes and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party Nationalist Party Abdul Rasheed Sheikh got 2997 votes.
When talked to Shiekh Abdul Rasheed as he is very much confident in BJP's mission 44+ in Jammu and Kashmir and said the people of Tral Constituency has been always neglected by the Every party now the people want change especially youth and the change will come only after BJP will come in majority.
Early Times correspondent talked to some senior citizens of this constituency, they said in last assembly elections many voters hesitated to come out for vote due to boycott call of separatists and thus PDP won the seat easily but this time large number of people to vote for BJP which would make it difficult for the PDP to retain this seat this time around.
"Last time many people did not cast vote. Now their vote will brighten the chances of BhartiyaJanta Party in the constituency. People want change now, as Tral has almost seen the MLAs of every party but this time residents of Tral wants new face National Conference has won this seat four times and did nothing in this area," they said.
However the weakening of Congress Party in the region may come as a relief for the PDP in the region as recently many prominent workers of Congress have joined the party recently. In the last assembly elections Congress emerged as a third runner up in the constituency and got 3158 votes.
However the pre-poll survey said that the BJP would get 22 to 29 seats, while as PDP would win 27 to 33 seats, while as the Congress would get 6 to 8 seats and it coalition partner National Conference would win 10 to 15 seats.
