NC finds fault with its one time most favourite police officer
The officer switched loyalty to join BJP after his retirement

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 14: While he was in service, ex-Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and present Chief Minister Omar Abdullah patronised controversial IGP (retd) Farooq Khan and took every care of his postings but he has now turned out to be a NC foe. Reason: Khan is now in the rival camp of NC and has joined hands with BJP.
NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattoo had on Thursday said that by promoting police officers like Khan, BJP was contemplating to tactically use the network of his sources and informers ahead of the assembly elections in J&K. But he forgot one thing that the retired IGP was one time a trusted NC man. During his days of service, he most of the times was in news, sometimes for his "autocratic" style of working and sometimes for wrong reasons.
Before his retirement as IGP an year or so back, he was Jammu range DIG from July 14, 2009 to April 26, 2012. His posting was alleged to have been managed by a senior NC functionary for certain reasons. The infamous Amandeep murder case, which took place on August 29, 2009, was also got probed by a police team headed by him.
Despite hue and cry from different quarters and the pressures, which police officers faced during the course of investigation into the Amandeep murder case, NC had backed Khan and not ordered his transfer. In return, NC allegedly utilised his services and gave him a free hand where the alleged interests of some of the party leaders were involved.
It was during his tenure only when some NC-backed people of Kashmir had grabbed some big contracts in Jammu. This was probably for the first time since Independence that these "prestigious" and "money minting" projects had gone in the hands of Valley contractors.
Earlier, there were speculations that Khan would most probably join NC, where he had his mentors, but he surprised all when he embraced the saffron brigade in a public rally held at Hiranagar on March 26 last in the presence of NarenderModi who was then BJP's prime ministerial candidate.
The party is now trying to project him as a Muslim face in Jammu. This has largely become intolerable for NC as an officer, whom it nurtured for years, switched loyalities when it needed him most to use his network of contacts to fetch votes for its candidates in the forthcoming state polls.
