Has BJP left north Kashmir for Sajad? | Something Is Cooking Up! | | PC workers likely to attend Modi's grand rally; NC may lend outside support to BJP after polls Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 14: The Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi earlier this week seems to have broken the ice between the two parties as the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) doesn't seem to be that keen to field its candidates from the frontier areas of north Kashmir's Kupwara district which are considered to be the citadels of Sajad Lone's party. The Peoples Conference has fielded Sajad Lone from Handwara; Advocate Salim Mir from Karnah; Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar from Kupwara; Abdur Rahim Wani from Lolab; Advocate Mohammad Abdullah from Langate; Khursheed Ahmad Khan from Rafiabad; Mohammad Ramzan Baba from Sopore and Asif Akbar Lone from Baramulla. The BJP till date has fielded three candidates from frontier areas of north Kashmir. The party has fielded Abdul Rashid Zargar from Lolab, M M War from Langate and Abdul Rehman Lone from Kupwara. A senior BJP leader while talking to Early Times said that names of the candidates from other north Kashmir seats would be announced soon. However, he refused to divulge further details. Sources said that after Sajad Lone met the Prime Minister in New Delhi the party leaders have been made to understand that they should leave a few areas in north Kashmir for the Peoples Conference as it is all set to join hands with the BJP after elections. The BJP insiders said that their party has entered into a "tactical alliance" with the Peoples Conference and if the BJP is able to form the next Government in the state the PC chief (Sajad Lone) would be given a key role. They said that Sajad Lone has already agreed to extend its full support to make the proposed rally of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kashmir a "grand success." "The PC workers would don the saffron attire and attend the Prime Minister's rally in large numbers," sources said. "Peoples Conference has agreed in principle to provide all the support to BJP in Kashmir. To field the candidates in PC bastions is immaterial for us," a BJP leader said. The BJP knows it very well that its base in Kashmir is not that strong and it's counting on the support from local parties. There are speculations making rounds that even the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has struck a deal with the top BJP leadership to keep opposition People’s Democratic Party and Congress at bay. Sources said that Omar is understood to have got it conveyed to the BJP leadership that his party National Conference can lend outside support to BJP if it falls short of 44 seats. "At present political parties are busy in working out permutations and combinations and nothing can be ruled out. One thing is for sure that no single party would be able to form the Government in Jammu and Kashmir and after the results are declared it can be anybody's game," sources added. |
