Grenade explosion kills one at Handwara | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari

HANDWARA, Nov 14: Grenade blast killed one and injured two civilians in a busy market of Mawar area of Handwara Tehsil of Kupwara district in north Kashmir on Friday afternoon. According to sources a grenade exploded with a bang killing a man and injuring other. The deceased has been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Najar. Sources said a motorcyclist was on way of Handwara from Mawar with a local carpenter Zahoor Ahmad Najar S/O Ghulam Qadir Najar R/O Lchi Mawar Handwara, when a grenade blast took place in a busy market of Lachi. They added that a grenade hit the body of Zahoor Ahmad Najar, who was seriously injured and was moved to the nearby Sub District Hospital Handwara, were he succumbed to his injuries. However different stories about the nature of blast have been put forth, some of them said that the two people on a motorcycle were carrying a grenade and it exploded. Eyewitness said that a hand grenade was hurled towards the busy market of Lache Mawar Handwara. In which one died on spot and another civilian was injured in the blast but his identity couldn't be ascertained. Lache comes in the jurisdiction of Kalamabad Police Station, Early Times contacted the present Station House Officer (SHO) Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, he said that grenade Blast took place at 12:00 pm, in which one civilian was killed and another got injured. However there was no clear confirmation from the SHO, who put Early Times call on hold for a minute. However Early Times have learnt from official sources that police were investigating about the blast. Meanwhile a teenage girl was crushed to death by an over-speeding army vehicle at Wangam in Langate area of frontier district of Kupwara on Friday afternoon. According to sources that Farhat Manzoor, 9, daughter of Manzoor Ahmad Rather, a resident of Wangam, died on the spot when the vehicle hit her near Gunpora bus stop on Handwara Baramulla highway. Locals staged a protest by blocking the highway. They have placed the dead body on the road and are demanding the arrest of the driver, sources said. However Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered an FIR and seized the army vehicle. |
