Politicians produce `enchanting' manifestos to woo voters | | | Mudasir Tariq Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 14 : As the state assembly elections are approaching and the election campaigning has already started, politicians are producing enchanting election manifestos to wooing voters. Every party and politician is coming up with new promises to gain public support. Leaving apart the development slogan, the politicians have indulged in old rhetoric to gain political mileage. While in parliamentary elections this year politicians raked the issues like Kashmir resolution, abrogation of Article 370, removal of AFSPA, general amnesty to stone pelters and Afzal Guru's hanging in their speeches to entice voters, the process is being repeated in the state assembly polls and these issues are once again being used by politicians in their constituencies to gain public sympathy. "These politicians use petty issue as a manifesto in the elections to gain public support. They make fabricated promises to resolve the issues that their successive governments failed to get through. If they really wanted to do something then they should focus on immediate matters like development, rehabilitation and employment generations programs," said Muntazir Ali, a University student. Meanwhile opinion polls survey conducted by C Voter- India Today has started making rounds in the media. The survey clearly predicts a defeat for the ruling NC-congress alliance. The opposition People's Democratic Party is projected to emerge as the single largest party with a seat range of 27-33 seats in a House of 87. The BJP may emerge second largest party with a seat range of 23-29, says the tracking poll.According to political analysts, this election is seen as an end to the National conference rule in the state. After six long years with Omar Abdullah's tenure about to end, it is also seen as the end, perhaps of his political career with the old party, National Conference, going through its worst ever crisis since being defeated in the LokSabha elections this year. "People have lost faith in this government, they played gimmicks with them in the name of formulae and solutions, and they turned nothing more than exploiters of common masses. People now want a change," said Mohammad Burhan, a political analyst. Analysts held that despite using spiteful machinations by NC to obstruct emergence of any regional political force in the state, parties like PDP and BJP have now emerged as the most viable regional alternative to NC. |
